The countdown for the holidays has begun and here at Mom-Spot we have amazing recommendations for this year’s gift giving. Each day from now until Christmas Eve, we will be featuring a recommended toy, book, stocking stuffer or special gift for the kids, mom and dad and the other members of the family. For a complete list, check out our Holiday Gift Guide here.
Today we bring you Battlebots Construct by HexBug. I don’t know about your family, but ours loves to watch Battlebots. The idea that we can build one at home, on a smaller scale of course, is a thrill. From the hit TV series BattleBots comes Tombstone, the grave maker! Construct your very own version of this champion robot with the VEX Robotics BattleBots Tombstone by HEXBUG. Use STEM-based problem solving skills in part with easy snap-together pieces to bring this bot to life. Tombstone comes complete with realistic detail and fully functional spinning blade!
Be prepared for a lot of pieces when you open up this box. Whenever we build, we have a cookie sheet and muffin tin ready so that we can start opening bags of pieces and sort them. Fun project that the entire family worked. Note that the kit does not include a motor, but the build project alone is well worth buying the kit. Great way to learn about mechanics and engineering. The clutch mechanism that allows the blade to move is interesting and we had fun learning and understanding how it worked. The instructions are complete and don’t leave you wondering if you are building the model properly.
Note, while the kit doesn’t come with a motor, I have a future engineer in the house that rigged it up to be motorized with parts from another kit. Was interesting to watch her work to make it happen.
