Inspire the Writer Within

My daughter has a lot of notebooks, some she doodles in and some she writes everything and anything in.  If you have a budding writer, inspire them with these two tools.

Fireflies, A Writer's NotebookFireflies – A Writer’s Notebook

Ideas are just like fireflies. You never know when they will flicker.

But young writers will be ready with this powerful tool to help them catch those elusive firefly ideas. With practical tips, plenty of free space for creativity, and helpful “spark starters” to light the way, this journal will guide, encourage, and help bring their new ideas to life!

Fireflies: A Writer’s Notebook won The Mom’s Choice Gold Award. The “Catching Fireflies” book app was named a Kirkus Reviews’ Best Books of 2014 Book App and a Benjamin Franklin Gold Digital Award Honoree; it also earned another Mom’s Choice Gold Award.

This book creates the sparks that inspire our best thinking, dreaming and writing, especially for new writers. The prompts interesting and not what your children will have heard over and over from school textbooks. The book’s design leaves a lot of space for kids to expand upon their thoughts and ideas.  Like all Little Pickle Press books, it is printed on recycled paper with soy inks.

Amazing Story GeneratorAmazing Story Generator
The Amazing Story Generator creates thousands of different story prompts! This flipbook for writers and other creative types allows users to randomly combine three different elements to generate a unique story idea. With hundreds of settings, characters, and plots to mix and match, the possibilities are just about endless. Packed with colorful, wacky, and engaging prompts, this is the perfect tool for jump-starting fresh new short stories, novels, scripts, screenplays, and improv sessions.

The book is a spiral-bound creation with “pages” that are split into three parts. The top-most part gives a starting circumstance, the middle part describes a character, and the bottom part describes a situation the character finds himself/herself/itself in. By randomly flipping the three-page parts, you can randomly generate a story “launching off point”. Where the story goes from there is up to the writer.
